You all have asked very detailed questions. I am going to try to answer them as best I can.

In general, the principal instruments are the guitar and the accordion. There are really no percussion instruments used.

The most typical dress worn by women is very flowered dresses representing the peasant women (campesinas) and the men dress in pants, cowboy boots, leather chaps, spurs, a Chilean cowboy hat, a jacket and a poncho. A white jacket means that the person is a land owner and a black jacket means that the person is a peasant.

Still, the style changes depending on the region. Farther south, they wear woolen hats and do not wear a cowboy hat, and the songs are a bit different although they maintain the same style referred to as "cueca".

Sadly, people who live in cities no longer dance the traditional dances, although anyone who wants to be a politician needs to know how.

The cueca is a courtship dance where the woman and the man are trying to conquer the love of their partner. It has a lot of different steps, most of them are associated to farm activities.

The people who most enjoy dancing are generally in musical-dance groups associated with their workplace, especially elementary and high school teachers. Here at the University, there is a group that dances traditional dances and travels around the country. There are also dance competitions for different age groups.

Gotta go
